ANYONE who knows ME, knows that I am a fan of ISAAC HAYES. Well, beyond fan, I was turned out by Ike when I was 9 and first heard BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX and WALK ON BY from his first success album HOT BUTTERED SOUL. That was 1968 and I ain't been right since. Damn glad I ain't right too!!!
I have everything he ever made...including singles that were not on albums.
He influenced me...his music was the single greatest influence of my music and wanting to be a musician, writer, producer.
I have a photo of Isaac and me on the wall in my studio. He has his arm around me and you can see his hand draping my shoulder. It's as if to say, " I got ya, my brotha, we are one in the music, one in the sound."
I will NOT miss him, he will never be "gone" to me as what I do is an embodyment and continuation of his artistic legacy. He did his thing.
He " Hot Buttered my Soul my Movement which was To Be Continued by Shaft and Black Moses as I had a Chocolate Chip And Once Again went to the Groove-a-thon of my existence"!!!
