I was SHOT!!

Literally, I was shot while attending a party in a private home in Philly.

Two other friends were shot also and much more critically than me. I was LUCKY, they were not. Truly beyond stupid, ridiculous and a shame that such a senseless act of violence was committed on my two friends, me and the other 30 people in attendance .

We were all there to celebrate a birthday, peaceful, beautiful, soulful house music birthday party. And with the answering of the door, the simple act of going to the door to see who this "guest" could be, 3 shots rang out with the sound of popping balloons.

As I sat in the comfortable chair facing the front door I watched Tony followed by Randy go to the front door, which is behind a curtain. The curtain hangs in the doorway to keep the noise level down so we can pump the music. Within a second I saw my friend Randy slam to the floor at my feet, I thought he tripped on the carpet at the door or stepped on a couple of balloons and fell. That would explain the "pop...pop". I heard the door slam and another "pop". I felt something hit me in the chest. Then I saw Tony behind him crouching as he rushed in saying, "Get down ya'll...This is for REAL!!".

As the reality quickly hit that I was in the line of fire sitting in this chair directly in front of the door, I jumped up and ran. Behind the chair I sat in was a screen that blocked the view of the stairs that are behind the screen. I ran up the stairs.

Up stairs I could feel a stinging on my chest. I looked at my white t-shirt and saw a little blood stain. I lifted the shirt and could see the blood, the wound on my chest. "Fuck...I've been hit..I hope this is just a graze...I don't see blood pouring out....this is not hurting that much...maybe I'm not really.....I never been shot, I don't know how it is supposed to feel.....I hope this is just a fuckin graze..a scratch!!!!"

Coming back down I see Randy laying and bleeding, Tony sitting and bleeding. I grabbed some hand sanitizer and a paper towel and cleaned my wound so I could see it better. I think I'm grazed!

Tony and Randy were not grazed. They were shot and it was NOT good. REALLY SHOT!!

We do this at 1533 Ridge Ave in Philadelphia, PA 19130 at a great enue called The Arts Garage.

Come through as we work diligently to get our own crowd. We want a mixture of people who can get down with a place that is off the main strip of clubs where "everybody else is".

Mid-West Values???

What are Mid-West Values?

People who are not from the East Coast so many times speak of their Mid-West Values. It's as if they are the only ones with any kind of values (whatever that is) and they must be superior or different than those from anywhere else. Must be something that they teach in school out there in the mid-west.

All people have ...values....all important to them and mid-west is not better or more sincere than east coast.

I'm from Jersey and there is a lotta shit we do not get down with...although it is OK in the mid-west. I'll keep my values...I like mine very much, dammit.

Mid-west people must really like them too, especially when they make their flight to the east coast (NYC) and stay. East Coast values??? Your friends are your family and we got each others backs. When Katrina hit, we took people in and sent our people down to actively manage a mess. You will NEVER see or hear of a East Coast(NY,NJ,CT) cop or fireman run from the duty or commitment.

Well it has happened again...another year coming to an end.

What I wanted to accomplish...I did and I did not.

I released more music on SLAAG TRAAX AND SLAAG RECORDS. I have a great Monday internet radio show DIVA'S & SLAAG'S from 1 - 3 NY Time on PRESSURRADIO.COM. I remixed and felt more creative to do original productions. I have updated and upgraded the studio heree in the SLAAG Dungeon. Studio is now up to 24bit, 96khz Apogee converter grade recording and MAC Pro 3.0 ghz processing. Pristine recorded sounds exemplified by Dawn Tallman and Eddie Nicholas vocal recordings done this year.

I just couldn't get those album projects finished/done as I wanted. What a fuckin stone to push!

We share much in common musically, so I was happy to do a mix on the project for release. Her original is funk/jazz inspired with additional depth added by the vocal talents of Dwayne Grannum.

Death of ISAAC HAYES

ANYONE who knows ME, knows that I am a fan of ISAAC HAYES. Well, beyond fan, I was turned out by Ike when I was 9 and first heard BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX and WALK ON BY from his first success album HOT BUTTERED SOUL. That was 1968 and I ain't been right since. Damn glad I ain't right too!!!

I have everything he ever made...including singles that were not on albums.

He influenced me...his music was the single greatest influence of my music and wanting to be a musician, writer, producer.

I have a photo of Isaac and me on the wall in my studio. He has his arm around me and you can see his hand draping my shoulder. It's as if to say, " I got ya, my brotha, we are one in the music, one in the sound."

I will NOT miss him, he will never be "gone" to me as what I do is an embodyment and continuation of his artistic legacy. He did his thing.

He " Hot Buttered my Soul my Movement which was To Be Continued by Shaft and Black Moses as I had a Chocolate Chip And Once Again went to the Groove-a-thon of my existence"!!!

What a great past 2 weekends for SLAAG RECORDS!

July 19 we were at the Garden Pier on the Atlantic City Boardwalk along with Preston Brown(Sandcastles,Coney Island) & Together in Spirit for the 2nd Annual Atlantic City Dance Express. We had about 350 people during the day from 3 - 11 pm. Folks hit the beach and the boardwalk and lounged in the sun.

July 25 & 26 we participated in the 3rd Annual Lincoln Park Music Festival in Newark, NJ.

Talk about the right place and time, Dawn Tallman sang 25 songs during Friday's Gospel segment of the festival and the 1500+ crowd now understand and know the Queen of Gospel Energy. She lifted hands and people out of their chairs.

On Saturday she along with Marc Sir Dance, Cee Cee Rogers & Su Su Bobien did a tribute to Sylvester which turned into a spiritual release for the 2000+ crowd as they remembered their friends.

A big event for SLAAG RECORDS happens tomorrow in Atlantic City, NJ. In cooperation with Preston Brown (Sandcastles on Coney Island, NY) and Together in Spirit we are presenting a house music FREE party on the Garden Pier @ Boardwalk & New Jersey Ave from 3p -11p.

I am one of the DJ's along with Preston and Herb Martin. There will also be other guest DJ's and Vocal performers who trail thru.

This is the second year for this event, but the first of many more to come for SLAAG RECORDS. I am commited to make this grow into an Atlantic City premier summer event.

Thruth is in that statement. Inspired as a musician is to make music, it is "in the spirit" that we feel so moved as to raise our hands TO the spirit. WE raise our hands to a higher place attempting to touch and become one with....return ourselves into that collective energy that music is. The energy that music becomes when it is created.

Music is the answer, love is the answer and the answer is the spirit in question.

This is an event with buses from Philadelphia to Atlantic City for a day/eve at the beach. There will be DJ's from New York & Philly beating the box from

3pm to 11pm on the Garden Pier which is across the Boardwalk from the Showboat Casino.

Tickets for the Philly buses will be available at SLAAGRECORDS.COM starting June 9.

I just love the way veteran acts perform. They give a "show"! I just can't get interested in new, young, neo acts getting on stage and performing to themselves. Not just about the money and time the audience put into coming to the performance, but also about drawing people who are there that MAY NOT be into you.....in to YOU.

It's a big stage....use it. MOVE!!! A static picture is what people see on a CD cover or Web Store. They want to see you move yo ass and interact with acknowledging that they are in the space .

Divas & Slaags NO PARTY

Well we tried!!!

Last night is the LAST NIGHT for Divas & Slaags The Party in Philly for now. After alot of thought and analysis DJ Venus 7 and I decided to stop immediately. We will find a new venue over the summer and start anew in the Fall.

Summer in most cities is not good for starting a new party UNLESS IT IS OUTDOORS. So we can wait to find a place that really fits Divas & Slaags for the Fall Season.

We STILL have the radio show every monday from 1p - 3p NY Time (6 - 8 UK), so we are good for now. Besides, the radio will keep our presence high and by the time we start anew, we will have even more people who would like to experience us.

Slaag Records WEEKLY event...NEEDS!!??

OK...I want and need a WEEKLY event or party to help showcase what the SLAAG RECORDS lifestyle is about. So I get with my girl DJ Venus 7 to start this thing we call DIVAS & SLAAGS every Wednesday in Philadelphia, PA at a place called The Raven lounge.

We feel the address of 1718 Sansom Street is great, 'cause it's in the Rittenhouse Square, ritzy fashion and club friendly area. It's also across the street from Sofitel hotel where Venus7 does a Wed. after-work function that is going well.

But it is SLOW, LIGHT, even DEAD at times. I think I'll try an email list to reach people. I've been reaching out with emails and MySpace and cell phone calls, but I need more.

So I'm looking for a GREAT PHILLY email list to send our flyer out on.
